Wollongong Botanic Gardens
5 Programs at Wollongong Botanic Gardens
Wiggly Worms
Students will participate in a hands-on exploration of a worm farm to meet the miners of the compost heap. These are nature’s workers, turning our food scraps into magic fertiliser. A brief skit on worm farming will reinforce the lesson at the end.
Wet and Dry Environments
Students will explore a range of landscapes in the Botanic Garden, analysing the differences between these equally important environments and investigating the biodiversity and their adaptations to each environment.
Recycled Gardens
This exciting program encourages schools to create their own living classroom.
No Dig Food Gardens
Students learn about sustainable gardening practices through investigating the natural layers of the rainforest, creating compost using nature’s own method. Students will participate in a hands-on activity in planting their own no-dig garden.
Setting up a Chicken Run in a School
Students will learn about the life cycle of a chicken and will have the opportunity to handle chickens. The needs of chickens will be discussed, including feeding, water, housing and their natural behaviours such as dust bathing and pecking orders.
